Today low-cost airlines are widespread both in America and in Europe, such a model operates in Ukraine. And Russia is trying to create a national low-cost airline on its own, seeing the prospect in this. True, the first attempt with the Dobrolet company was not successful for a number of reasons. It can be said without a doubt that the majority of passengers are waiting for the appearance of low-cost airlines in our market. True, not everyone understands the essence of such a proposal, and due to what an attractive price is achieved. We will debunk the myths about low-cost airlines, while we will not ignore some interesting facts about them.

Low-cost airlines work with regular airports. One of the main items to reduce the cost of low-cost airlines is the savings on airport services. For this, carriers work with secondary airports. Such cooperation is beneficial to everyone - low-cost airlines get the opportunity to be served at a low price, and airports get a load. Here passengers are provided with less services than usual. And large cities are not very close. So, low-cost airlines use not London Heathrow, but much less famous Stasted and Gatwick, instead of Milan Malpenza and Linate - neighboring Bergamo. True, many large airports have already created special terminals for low-cost airlines, there is one in Boryspil, Charles de Gaulle airport and Barajas in Madrid. Savings at conventional airports are achieved by minimizing the check-in period, early or late departure times, and refusal from bus to plane. There are stories about how low-cost airlines literally saved small airports, dramatically increasing the flow of passengers.

For example, the Spanish Vueling makes 8 flights a day on the Barcelona-Seville route and 7 flights in the opposite direction. Obviously, the planes have been turned into buses with wings. As soon as the passengers leave the cabin, the stewards are already starting to vacuum the room, preparing for a new flight. Luggage is immediately loaded and the tanks are filled. The plane can spend on the ground literally half an hour and go back.

Low-cost airlines are not on schedule. In conventional airlines, all risks of delays, together with associated costs, are included in the ticket price. The passenger does not even know what part of the ticket price belongs to this article. But low-cost airlines cannot afford such a luxury. They optimized the route scheme as much as possible, and the flight schedule is very tight. That is why low-cost airlines try to make their flights depart on time. The very best low-cost airlines that have optimized their costs show a maximum of 15 minutes delay in 95% of their flights. As a result, each plane can fly up to 10 hours per day, which is the norm for low-cost carriers.

Long-distance flights increase costs and force the introduction of passenger services.

Low-cost airlines often take on regional transportation. At short distances, rail transport begins to compete with low-cost airlines. In 2008, there were up to 60 flights a day between Barcelona and Madrid. And after the launch of the high-speed railway, the number of its passengers began to grow, due to flights. This helps to clean the interior quickly. Most often, tickets are offered without specifying seats, passengers have to board faster and take better seats. And this also has savings - minutes of downtime on the ground also cost money. But the increased number of seats is justified by the occupancy rate - a good low-cost airline is always provided with passengers.

Low-cost airlines have simple rates. One of the advantages of low-cost airlines is tariff flexibility. For example, flights between cities may not be carried out every day, but in those when the traffic peak is usually observed. The number of flights may vary from time to year. The ticket price has a basic part and additional options. The first can vary from the time of purchase of the ticket. Purchased a few months before departure, it will be the cheapest. So, when preparing to go on a trip with the help of a low-cost airline, you need to carefully study all the options in advance - you can save a lot.

Low-cost airlines also have connecting flights. Airlines usually offer to make a transfer, and the baggage will be automatically transferred from plane to plane. If there are problems with connecting, the passenger will be sent on the next flight, and, if necessary, will be placed in a hotel. It is these costs that are included in the ticket price. But in the case of a low-cost airline, there can be no such flights - all problems in connection are passed on to the passenger. That is why, when planning a transplant, it is worth making a large amount of time. Even if there will be flights of one company, it is not responsible for the delay.

Only students use low-cost airlines. This opinion is expressed by experts who are contemptuous of low-cost carriers. In fact, many respectable people in suits, with laptops and briefcases fly in low-cost airlines in Europe. Businessmen know how to count money. Low-cost airlines have their obvious disadvantages - remote airports, departure times, uncomfortable seating. But the price negates all this. But with the help of low-cost airlines, you can travel quickly and cheaply with whole families throughout Europe.

It has not been completely abandoned; one cannot rely only on popular rumor or on the fact that the prices themselves will be the best advertisement. Companies prefer to use controversial methods, sometimes on the verge of a foul. But it allows you to loudly declare yourself using minimal costs. Often, carriers force airports to provide them virtually free of charge areas of facades and walls for advertising. Even with the name of the airport, cunning low-cost airlines manage to arrange a small marketing stunt. For example, Weeze airport is called Düsseldorf-Weeze, although from here to Düsseldorf itself is 70 kilometers. From Paris-Beauvais airport to the capital of France is generally 80 kilometers. Often times, a company runs promotions promising low rates, not to mention the additional rates that are required in most cases. Low-cost airline Ryanair promises that the route from London to Brussels will be faster than high-speed Eurostar trains. However, this only applies to the flight itself. But there is still a road from the airport to the city, which in the end will take longer than the entire train journey. Companies do not hesitate to directly humiliate their competitors, due to shares and inscriptions on the sides of their aircraft. Ryanair has learned very well that scandal is the best advertisement. Provocative posters and statements turn into complaints and courts, but the name of the carrier is on everyone's lips.

Low-cost airlines only make money on flights. Carriers are trying to make money on everything that is possible. Companies usually have a large share of revenue that has nothing to do with ticket sales at all. Additional income is up to 20% of the total. Of these, 10% - the sale of food, drinks and small jewelry, cosmetics, watches directly during the flight. 15% of additional income comes from the Internet. Companies offer additional options when purchasing tickets - insurance, seat selection, luggage space, transfer from the airport and back, parking rent. And 75% of the additional income comes from the sale of aircraft. The air carrier purchases them from the manufacturer in large quantities, receiving a discount on this. The same Ryanair from 1999 to 2013 purchased 348 new Boeing 737-800s, and in 2013 signed a new contract for 175 aircraft worth $ 14 billion. Another part of the income “on the ground” is the passengers themselves. For those who could not register online, check-in at the airport will cost a pretty penny. Passengers have to pay for baggage. The carrier only offers one piece of small carry-on baggage, limiting size and weight. Anything that does not fit into these parameters is paid additionally.

Low-cost airlines do not provide ticket refunds. Most low-cost airlines do not allow you to return your ticket. Usually, even a simple change in the date or last name of a passenger can cost more than the ticket itself. But even with a non-refundable ticket, you can get back some of the funds. Many low-cost airlines, if the passenger does not show up at the airport, even if not immediately, will return the tax amount at the airport. And you can always choose a tariff plan in which you can return the ticket. You still have to pay extra for this, but what is not an option if you are not sure about the departure date?

You can have a snack during the flight. Low-cost airlines never feed their passengers for free. In fact, the passenger buys the flight, and the rest is offered to him. And on short flights, food is more entertainment than a physiological need. You can have a snack at home or at the airport. And although it is forbidden to take food with them on board, the conductors usually turn a blind eye to a packet of cookies or dried fruit. Those who absolutely need to eat during the flight can be advised to order food in advance on the carrier's website - it will cost at least half the price.

There is no entertainment on low-cost airlines. Modern liners provide many opportunities for entertainment. There are monitors in the backs of the chairs where you can watch movies and play. Recently, low-cost airlines have begun to offer a similar service. But you have to pay for it - for the headphones and the content itself.
