Moisture plays an important role in human life, including being in the air. People are constantly faced with the fact that there is not enough moisture, but at low temperatures this is simply not felt.

But this is a real time bomb! Every day, lived in conditions of lack of moisture in the air, slowly destroys the body. In addition, dry air spoils objects - wooden furniture, old books, wallpaper, paintings.

You can solve this problem with a humidifier. Therefore, it is worth debunking the main myths about humidifiers.

If it's humid outside, you don't need to moisten the house either. It is worth asking the question - what level of relative humidity will be at home if the outside temperature is 0 degrees, and the humidity is 75%? Not at all the same as outside the window. If you heat a cubic meter of air like this from the street to the average temperature that is usually in the room (about 20 degrees), then without additional humidification the level of relative humidity for this volume will eventually be only 20%. But for a comfortable stay in a room, at least 40% humidity is required. As the air temperature rises, its humidity decreases. And let it be winter outside, there is fog, 0 degrees and relative humidity of 100%. If the temperature in the house is 22 degrees, then a little moisture will get inside. The moisture indicator will be about 23%, which is a proven fact. If in winter the humidity is even lower, then indoors it can be 7% in general. It should be borne in mind that in winter, the house also has a heating system that “dries up” the air.

If there are so many sources of moisture in the house, then you don't need to purchase a humidifier. There are indeed many different sources of liquid in the house - this is a boiling kettle with water, cooking, drying clothes, and even draining the bathroom after taking it. This myth would be true if we dried clothes and brewed tea in all rooms. It is no coincidence that the level of humidity in the kitchen is much higher than that in other rooms. This is facilitated by cooking, accompanied by the release of steam, and the operation of the gas stove. After all, when household gas is burned, both carbon dioxide and water vapor are released. The problem is also that natural sources of moisture cannot provide the percentage of moisture at a given level, no control will work. It is also important to remember that optimal air humidity is needed in those rooms where a person spends most of the time. Providing the required level will be important at least for healthy sleep. After all, because of the dry air, a person does not feel sleepy and he constantly wants to go outside. That is why, if there is no particular desire to constantly dry the linen in the apartment and rush around the rooms with a kettle and basins, you should provide the desired level of humidity in a simple way - purchase a humidifier.

In winter, you can leave the humidifier turned off. Another curious rule is that the air in the room must be ventilated every day, regardless of the season. Indeed, in the stagnant air allergens and dust accumulate, the oxygen content decreases, making the air simply stale. However, even a small amount of frosty air admitted to the street in winter will greatly reduce the humidity in the room while maintaining the same temperature. In other words, moisture will simply evaporate through an open window. Many of us have observed how water dissolved in the air near the window forms steam, which goes out. That is why it is imperative to ventilate the room with the humidifier on, otherwise this useful step will only make the air drier. In winter, the relative humidity outside is quite high, the percentage of moisture in the air. However, due to low temperatures, its absolute value is very low. It is the low absolute humidity that is the cause of many northern diseases - respiratory diseases are widespread in the Arctic Circle.

A humidifier is generally unhealthy. If you do not follow the simplest rules for using devices, which the manufacturer usually gives, then an electric kettle can also harm your health. The myth most often comes up in connection with ultrasonic humidifiers. After all, invisible waves scare some people. They say that even cats refuse to sleep in rooms where such devices work. It is worth knowing that the effect of ultrasound on the human body depends on the frequency of wave oscillations and on the time of exposure. Ultrasonic humidifiers don't emit anything at all, they just break the water into small droplets. The membrane of the device works absolutely silently in a range that is safe for both humans and animals. There are no orders or laws whatsoever that would restrict the use of humidifiers. In medical recommendations, it is generally said about the optimal indicators of air humidity in the room. For those who are alarmed by the fact of additional payment for harm to those employees of medical institutions who work for hours with ultrasound, we can only advise one thing - to purchase a humidifier with a natural principle of water evaporation. The water will not be crushed by ultrasound, but by the rotating discs and the air flow supplied by the fan.

The water in the humidifier blooms and spreads harmful bacteria. This myth is based on the fact that there is no flow system in the humidifier. This appliance is not connected to a water supply such as a washing machine. In fact, a humidifier needs to be looked after and cleaned - this will guarantee health and avoid problems during operation. If you pour water into the container and do not change it for a long time, then sooner or later it will really bloom. Indeed, in an ordinary plumbing environment, there are many microorganisms that cause the very bloom. In blooming water, bacteria begin to multiply even faster, among them disease-causing ones. And when they evaporate, many of them fall into the air that we breathe. However, we are talking about the simplest devices in which only the humidification function is present. In modern and expensive climate systems, this problem is solved by installing a special filter, which is part of the air purification system. This is why choosing a humidifier is important. There are devices that can neutralize bacteria and prevent them from entering the air. So, when preparing to purchase a humidifier, it may be worth thinking about a more serious device, a climate complex.

When the air conditioner is on, the humidifier can be turned off. This myth is the result of the belief of most people that a modern split system sucks in air from the outside, thereby "refreshing" the room. In fact, this is not the case, such functionality is present only in premium models costing several thousand dollars. The external block of the split system is necessary to cool the freon and create the required pressure. The fact that the air conditioner dries the air is a fact. The split system has a drain hose to drain the water accumulating in the indoor unit. That is why, where the air conditioner works, a humidifier is simply needed. A couple of hours of operation of a split system can lead to a drop in humidity levels to a critical level of 20-25%. But such indicators are present only in the desert. As a result, the conditioner will form an aggressive environment for the eyes, skin and respiratory organs. Modern, expensive models can also purify the air, but most of these systems simply cool the air in the room. And this is a time bomb. Those who seek to create an ideal microclimate at home should pay attention to climatic complexes. They will not only restore the balance of humidity in the room, but also clear the air of dust mites, microorganisms and odors.

If the humidifier is constantly working, then waterlogging will occur. According to this myth, prolonged operation of the humidifier will lead to the appearance of mold, everything around will begin to rot and damp, the wallpaper will fall off, and the plaster will crumble. The statement is only partially true. This situation can be observed for simple humidifiers that do not know how to control humidity and temperature. High-quality and expensive devices have built-in sensors that allow maintaining a constant set humidity level. The air will be exactly as planned. If the humidity reaches the specified level, then the device will simply turn off, working again as needed. The climatic complex is designed not only to constantly humidify the air, but to maintain the absolute and relative humidity in the room at an optimal level. It should be noted that this myth scares people the most. After all, the absence of moisture does not appear outwardly in any way and is not felt immediately, then the dampness can be seen almost immediately.

Humidifier can build up deposits on furniture. White bloom can actually appear if a steam or ultrasonic humidifier is used in combination with tap water. After all, it contains a lot of salts and impurities, including carbonates. After heating and cleavage by ultrasound, they settle in the form of a dry residue on furniture and things. Such plaque is akin to that which forms in the form of scale on the spirals of washing machines and in kettles. There is nothing terrible for health in this, just more often you need to clean your premises. And in order to finally get rid of unwanted plaque, you need to start using distilled water. There are certainly no salts in it. You can also use complexes with natural evaporation of moisture, as a result, there will be no plaque. The air will be not only humid, but also clean.

The humidifier gurgles constantly, so it doesn't belong in the nursery. There are reasons for this myth. Indeed, steam humidifiers are noisy due to boiling water. The noise level of each device is different, but in the end, water can really interfere with the sleep of a child, and even an adult. Only appliances with natural cold humidification, where the water does not heat up at all, are silent. Such complexes should be placed in a children's room - they are quiet, provide humidity and air purity.
