Facelift or circular facelift is a type of plastic surgery that can help restore the ideal contours of the face and neck, eliminate deep wrinkles, and make the skin of the face elastic. This operation allows you to eliminate the sagging of the soft tissues in the neck and chin, to improve the oval of the face. It is believed that the effectiveness of a facelift depends on the patient's physical health and skin condition.

For face correction, patients can be offered several types of plastic surgery: endoscopic lifting, isolated forehead plastic, neck plastic or circular facelift. Mini-lifts, SMAS-lifting, tumescent facelift are very popular. Facelift is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from one to three hours (depending on the complexity of the procedure). After the operation, the patient stays in the clinic for one or two days.

It should be noted that the concept of "lifting" is also found in cosmetology (photorejuvenation, mesotherapy, neodymium laser, etc. have a lifting effect). Perhaps that is why many myths, misconceptions and absolutely ridiculous rumors have arisen around the concept of "facelift". What is he really like, is this a mysterious facelift? Let's try to figure it out.

A facelift can help get rid of bags under the eyes and drooping eyelids. No, to solve these problems, another type of operation is used - blepharoplasty. Lifts (temporal, frontal, eyebrow lift) help to enhance its effect. These techniques, used in combination, make it possible to eliminate any (both age-related and congenital) defects or changes in the upper and lower eyelids.

A circular face and neck lift (rhytidectomy) will smooth out all expression lines. Unfortunately, this is not the case. In the process of circular lifting, first of all, the prolapse of soft tissues, both congenital and caused by gravity (soft tissue ptosis), is eliminated. Rhytidectomy does not completely eliminate mimic wrinkles that appear as a result of the work of mimic muscles (except for a forehead lift (not related to rhytidectomy), when part of the mimic muscles is deliberately destroyed).

The more the skin is stretched during the circular facelift, the better - after all, wrinkles will not be noticeable. In plastic surgery, as in any other business, it is important to be able to find the "golden mean". Indeed, in some cases, after the operation, the patient's face loses its individuality or looks unnatural. This effect occurs if the standard classical method was used during face lifting (especially repeated), which involves the detachment of large areas of the skin and strong tension of the surface tissues. As a result, wide postoperative scars are formed, and the skin of the face is excessively stretched. To avoid such unpleasant consequences, an experienced surgeon touches the deep structures of the face, avoiding overstretching of the surface tissues.

Facelift can be carried out only after reaching the age of fifty. Indeed, as a rule, it is after reaching this age that the patient most needs a circular lift (lifting of the lower zone of the face and neck). However, it should be borne in mind that patients with some facial features (narrowed lower jaw, underdeveloped chin, low location of the hyoid bone), in whom the first signs of aging are especially noticeable, can use the services of plastic surgeons at an earlier age. Most often, such patients are advised to combine contouring of the chin area with soft tissue lifting.

The facelift will provide a rejuvenating effect for a lifetime. This is not entirely correct opinion. The effect of this operation is most noticeable over a period of seven to ten years. But even after this period, patients look much younger than their peers who did not resort to plastic surgery services.

The effect after several cosmetic surgeries separated by rather long time intervals is the same. No, only after the first tightening is the most pronounced effect noticeable, since it is during the first operation that the most powerful tissue movement occurs. Later, when tissue elasticity deteriorates, the lifting effect is not so pronounced.

Facelift is one operation, quite easy, requiring only local anesthesia. Its duration is an hour, no more. This is not true. Previously, a facelift (in which the effect was only on the skin) was actually performed under local anesthesia. Nowadays, thanks to the emergence of new methods and technologies, it has become possible to simultaneously carry out several anti-aging operations on the face. Facelift can include up to six surgeries (for example, endoscopic forehead and midface lifting, cheek and neck lifting with SMAS elements, neck plastic, upper and lower blepharoplasty can be performed simultaneously). Accordingly, the duration of the operation increases (sometimes up to six hours) and it became necessary to use general anesthesia. In addition, such an operation can only be performed by an experienced specialist in a clinic equipped with modern equipment.

Instead of a circular lift, you can apply laser or chemical peeling, resurfacing, etc. Only facelift can eliminate excess skin and sagging. Peeling and resurfacing can be an excellent addition to this operation, eliminating fine wrinkles and age-related pigmentation, but they cannot completely replace facelift.

There are lifting methods that do not leave scars. Unfortunately, this is not the case, especially when it comes to circular or full lifting, which allows you to eliminate wrinkles on the forehead, cheeks, neck. Excess tissue is removed by excision through a skin incision, after which a scar is formed. But such scars are located in the scalp, in the fold in front of the auricle, and modern suture technique allows them to be completely hidden. Only after endoscopic lifting, performed through 1-2 centimeters incisions in the scalp, the scars do not remain. However, this method can only eliminate some groups of wrinkles.

The facelift will have to be repeated in two or three years. In fact, a stable facelift effect has been observed for seven to eight years, and only occasionally in some patients there is sometimes a need to eliminate individual small wrinkles on the skin, most often under the eyes.
